about

Humeysha’s Departures has been reworked by collaborators in a four-part remix EP after premiering in 2018 on Stereogum, and featuring Kurt Feldman of Ice Choir and ex-Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Myles Avery, as well as Humeysha’s own Dylan Bostick (Long Distance Call). Zain Alam’s remix and video were produced for the Artists in the Archive: Where We Belong fellowship in conjunction with the South Asian American Digital Archive (SAADA). Dr. Michelle Caswell, co-founder and professor of library studies at UCLA, facilitated a conversation between Alam and the Dhillon sisters whose family home videos were remixed in Lavaan. The transcript and premiere of the Departures remix EP are available now at SAADA’s Tides magazine: www.saada.org/tides/article/the-archival-spark.
